Roena Ashing

Status: Unknown, likely released As seen on Women Behind Bars, Roena Ashing plead guilty for a sentence between 20 and 60 years in prison because the state was going to seek the death penalty. Thomas M. Bauer was murdered by several men, one of which was her boyfriend at the time. She attempted to withdraw her guilty plea, but was denied. She is 65 years old at the present time so it is likely she was paroled but there is no record of that available at this time. There is also not an obituary or death record. Celeste Beard Johnson

Status: Incarcerated for life Celeste Beard Johnson is in prison for orchestrating the death of her husband in order to inherit his money. She manipulated a mentally ill codependent woman to do so. She maintains her innocence to this point. The status of her fourth marriage to Stephen Cole Johnson is unclear. Appellant met Steven Beard in 1993 while working as a waitress at the Austin Country Club, where Beard was a member.   Beard's wife of forty-two years, who was seriously ill when he met appellant, died in October of that year.   Appellant divorced her third husband, Jimmy Martinez, in April 1994, and Beard and appellant were married in February 1995.   At the time of the marriage, appellant was thirty-two years old and Beard was seventy.   Appellant had thirteen-year-old twin daughters, Kristina and Jennifer, from a previous marriage.   Kristina was living with appellant in Austin, but Jennifer lived with her father in Washington.   After appellant married Be...

Rita Nitz

Status: As seen on Women Behind Bars, Rita Nitz was convicted of the first-degree murder of Michael D. Miley. She was sentenced to natural life in prison. She was an accomplice to her husband in this crime. She is not eligible for release and has changed her name to Brookmeyer. Defendant was charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of Michael D. Miley. Jurors heard the following testimony at defendant's trial. On April 9, 1988, Richard Kaiber of Carbondale and a group of his friends camped at an area called Rocky Comfort, which is just south of Crab Orchard Lake. Kaiber and about 10 to 15 other campers went to look at an abandoned car "to see what it was all about." While the campers were vandalizing the car, the trunk popped open and a headless body rolled out. The body was that of Michael D. Miley, who had been missing since April 6, 1988. Deana Fairchild

Status: Incarcerated for Life As seen on Women Behind Bars, Deana was convicted of killing Joseph Emil Martin Jr., and  his parents Joseph Emil Martin Sr.,  and Tommy Grace Martin via a fire. Considering how much the death penalty is applied in the state, she was fortunate to have avoided it. She was given three life sentences plus thirty-three years. Leslie Demeniuk

Status: Incarcerated As seen on Women Behind Bars, Leslie Demeniuk   was convicted to two consecutive life sentences for the murders of her twin four year old sons. She started her sentence in 2006 and is not eligible for release. Ms.Demeniuk  is  charged  with  the first-degree murder of her 4-year old twin boys. The State is seeking the death penalty. Ms.Demeniuk has given notice that she intends to rely on thedefense of insanity. It is the nature of the asserted insanity that gives rise to the present dispute. Connie Keel

Connie Keel Status: Released As seen on Women Behind Bars, Connie Keel served 29 years in prison for sitting in a car while her husband robbed and killed a shop owner. She was freed by Adam Reich, a law student in SC Law’s Post-Conviction Justice Project clinical program. Connie has not forgotten where she comes from and appears to be active with California Coalition for Women Prisoners who's mission is CCWP is a grassroots social justice organization, with members inside and outside prison, that challenges the institutional violence imposed on women, transgender people, and communities of color by the prison industrial complex (PIC). Bernice Ahrens

Status: Incarcerated As seen on Women Behind Bars, A jury convicted Bernice Ahrens of murder and assessed punishment at 80 years confinement for the murder of Louis “Buddy” Musso. She was one of six six co-defendants who killed Buddy for a life insurance policy. Her projected release date is 8/26/2078, which is in essence a life sentence unless she lives a very long time. On August 26, 1998, Mical Renz was jogging on Main Street in Galena Park at about 6:15 a.m. when he saw what he believed to be a person lying on the embankment.   At the time, Renz did not stop to inquire further into what he had seen.   After finishing his morning run and preparing for work, Renz went back to the scene a few minutes before 8:00 a.m. He discovered that what he had seen earlier was the body of a dead man.   Renz then called the police.   A few minutes later, Officer Kevin Cates of the Galena Park Police Department arrived on the scene and confirmed that the victim was dead.   Cates obse...

Cindy Countess

Status: Unknown As seen on Women behind Bars, Cindy Countess was convicted of 2nd degree murder in 2003 of the stomping death of her mother. She is not currently found using inmate search. There are not news articles about her release or pardon. Her sister has been working diligently to have her released. Her whereabouts are unknown at this time. Her sister's petition is below. There is a petition to free Cindy: Help free Cindy Countess . She was denied parole in 2014. According to her petition, On April 28, 2004, the Circuit Court for the City of Roanoke found Countess guilty of second degree murder and sentenced her to 30 years incarceration and suspended 16 of those years.It is certainly likely she has been released. Jennifer Blake

Status:  Incarcerated for Life As seen on Women Behind Bars, Jennifer is convicted of the murder of her mother. Her boyfriend, Corey Demetrius Jackson was also convicted of this crime.
